Sportsman Pilot Magazine!

Sportsman Pilot is a quarterly aviation magazine for lovers... those who love airplanes and love to fly. No airliners or corporate jets here, just the fun stuff: homebuilts, antiques, classics, contemporaries, ultralights, gyroplanes, vintage warbirds, and Reno racers.

Sportsman Pilot is a quarterly aviation magazine for those who are fascinated by the exotic new homebuilts that are pushing back the frontiers of light plane technology... for those who love the great old antique and classic airplanes that gave wings to an earlier generation... and for those who thrill to the rolling thunder of a pack of unlimited racers rounding a pylon at Reno. Its for all who love airplanes, who love to fly, and who enjoy reading about the exploits of kindred spirits... the type of enthusiast who was called a "sportsman pilot" in the heyday of the Gee Bee racers, the Clipwing Monocoupe, and the mighty Staggerwing.

Sportsman Pilot offers a unique perspective... the legendary distance flyers of the '30s juxtaposed with latter day adventurers spanning oceans and continents in their backyard creations; today's ultralights reliving the era of the "flying flivvers" of the early '30s; the golden age of air racing and today's September champions at Reno. In no other aviation magazine will you find this intriguing blending of the best of aviation's past and present.

Introduced in May of 1981, Sportsman Pilot has earned a reputation for high quality... and for its "different" approach to the quarterly magazine concept. Every issue of Sportsman Pilot is as current as a monthly, filled with exclusive coverage of the newest homebuilt designs, vintage restorations, fly-ins from the Carolinas to California, personalities, and much more.

Sportsman Pilot is owned and published by Jack and Golda Cox, now of Asheboro, North Carolina. For nearly 30 years, they were editor-in-chief and managing editor, respectively, of the EAA's flagship publication, Sport Aviation... and Jack was the magazine's principal writer. No other editor/writer/photographer has covered the sport aviation scene so extensively, which assures you of knowledgeable, perceptive coverage in Sportsman Pilot.
